Ribbons From Rachel

When my niece, Rachel, was between the ages of 6 and 8 years old, she lost her hair while undergoing chemotherapy. An older girlfriend made her a headdress of cascading ribbons and flower petals. It was colorful and flowing and felt to Rachel like the long hair that she had lost. Unlike a wig or a hat, it was light weight, cool and comfortable. She loved it.

Rachel lived happily and grew to be a lovely young woman. Sadly, we lost her at the age of 24. To honor Rachel’s memory and help children like her, Ribbons From Rachel was started. This organization makes and donates headdresses, along with other fun gifts and necessities, to pediatric patients at children’s hospitals in Jacksonville, FL, Boston, MA and Atlanta, GA.

These gifts are funded by proceeds from soft sculptures made and donated by Tracy, that include whimsical and colorful mermaids, fairies, angels and bespoke art dolls. A small sampling of these wonderful art pieces are shown here:
